Path of Exile Item Upgrades

Item upgrades are a common and crucial method to enhance the performance of many items in Path of Exile. They can be a fantastic source of additional damage, more AD or even more attaches.

Rare-grade equipment can be superior to upgraded Common or Magic equipment due to their higher requirements.

Armor

Armor upgrades can be applied to both armor and weapon items. They boost the effectiveness of the item upgrader mod they are connected to. Armor upgrades can be found in the game's world and can be purchased from Blacksmiths at any bonfire. They can also be salvaged by using a professional or higher salvage kit to retrieve upgrade components from items.

There are several different types of armor upgrades available in the game. Each has a different effect. Most players will want to make the most of upgrades to weapons they most often use to allow them to progress quicker. Players should also upgrade the weapons their squadmates utilize to increase their power. For instance, Shepard should consider upgrading the M92F to unlock the Beretta M93R to increase its utility when paired with experts in biotics like Grunt and Tali.

Jewels

Jewels are utilized in the sockets of armor and weapons, enhancing the power of a character and bringing about secondary effects. Jewelry crafting is a method of making them, where you combine gemstones with specific reagents on a jewelry table. The higher the level of the gem has, the more powerful its secondary effect. These reagents are available from Treasure Goblins and World Bosses in the world, or through collecting Legendary Gear. You can also buy them from The Jeweler in exchange for Scattered Prisms and gold.

The quality of a gem can be improved by the Jeweler in stages that range from Crude to Royal. Depending on the tier of the jewel it can provide different stat boosts when inserted into weapons, gear and jewelry.

The Jeweler is able to create all kinds of gems, with the exception of rare and legendary ones which you must attain certain levels to gain. Jewels can be replaced by another jewel without damaging the original. You are able to replace the jewel once within an item of equipment.

It is common to use more jewels for aesthetic reasons. In addition to enhancing performance, the diamonds create an outer layer that is more durable than steel, so the repeated friction from pivots won't cause damage as easily.

A Glyphmaster can offer glyphs to improve the look of your weapons and shields. They offer a small benefit and can be swapped out at any time however they aren't guaranteed to drop as loot. They can be acquired starting in the areas of starting as loot or personal story rewards from vendors, and through performing road interactions. They can be found on the Trading Post, or crafted by jewelers.

The first trinkets that a player is able to unlock is the cloak, which grants a small, but valuable boost to speed of movement and evasion. After that, they'll be able to purchase amulets, rings and necklaces in a similar way to how a player acquires weapons and armor. Each piece of equipment has one upgrade slot that can accommodate either a universal or jewel upgrade. Universal upgrades offer smaller bonuses and can be placed in any kind of equipment while jewelry cannot be replaced or upgraded, and is only compatible with certain kinds of trinkets.

These trinkets can provide additional bonuses and abilities that are active even when the hero isn't in combat. This lets the hero be more effective while inactive and may also help to compensate for the absence of a solid team or the absence of any slots in the talent tree that normally are filled with hero's ideal statistics.

As a general rule, trinket upgrades should prioritize BiS (Best item upgrade in Slot) items you won't replace anytime soon.
