Path of Exile Item Upgrades

Item upgrades are a common and crucial method to enhance the performance of numerous items in Path of Exile. They can be a fantastic source of extra damage and more AD or even more attachments.

Rare-grade equipment can be superior to the more modernized Common or Magic equipment due to their higher requirements.

Armor

Armor upgrades can be applied to both armor and weapon items. They boost the performance of the item upgrade they're attached to. Armor upgrades can be found in the world of games and are available from Blacksmiths on bonfires. Alternately, they can be salvaged from items with upgrade components inside them, with a professional or higher salvage kit.

The level of an armor's or weapon's upgrade determines the amount of damage it can absorb. The ability to absorb damage of an armor piece will increase as it is upgraded to the highest upgrade level. There are many different kinds of armor upgrades available in the game. Each has a different impact. The type of armor upgrade that an item will receive will be identified by the name of the upgrade as indicated in the table below.

Some upgrades also feature magic or a mix of technology and magic which is identified by an "Magic" or "Hybrid" entry in the table below. Some upgrades also require a fee to use, which is indicated by an "Charges" entry in the table below. The charges for these upgrades are updated daily or never expire dependent on the upgrade.

Iron Ore is the cheapest way to improve your armor. You can find it by exploring and looting small loot chests. Titanium is more costly, but can be found at the smelters in Orgrimmar and Stormwind City. Some upgrades, like the Reforge or the Hot Potato Books can only be applied on high-level armor pieces. These upgrades can provide significant improvement in stats and are a worthwhile investment, especially for 1-handed weapons.

The player must be aware, however, that upgrading a piece up to the maximum upgrade level can increase its defense values. However, it can also decrease its agility and speed. It is not recommended to upgrade item armor beyond +9. The defensive boost gained generally isn't worth the weight and power costs of the upgrades.

Weapons

Weapon upgrades allow players the ability to improve certain aspects of their weapon. Upgrades can improve the accuracy of a rifle, or the damage that shotgun shells cause. Certain firearms have enhancements to enhance their intrinsic capabilities. They include Frictionless Materials (improves stability and decreases the chance of overheating of the weapon) and Kinetic Coils (increases projectile acceleration for more damage).

The majority of upgrades to weapons require three Power Dices, a different amount of Minerals and Erons, and a whetblade. They can be obtained by finishing side quests, killing a certain number of monsters or bosses, or from the Weapon Upgrade NPC located in Central Flarine.

Jewels

Jewels are placed in the sockets of armor and weapons, increasing a stat and providing secondary effects. They can be created through a process called jewelry crafting, which is where you combine a gemstone and several chemicals at a table. The higher the level of the gemstone has, the more powerful its secondary effect. These reagents can be found around the world from Treasure Goblins, World Bosses and sometimes by salvaging Legendary equipment. You can also buy them from The Jeweler in exchange for gold and Scattered Prisms.

The Jeweler can improve the quality of gemstones in stages ranging from Crude up to Royal. Based on the level of the gem, it will provide a different stat boosts when inserted into weapons, equipment and jewelry.

All kinds of jewels are crafted at the Jeweler and Jeweler's Workshop, with the exception of the rare and legendary gems that require you to be at a certain level to be able to get them. In contrast to other upgrade components, jewels are able to be swapped with another jewel of the same kind without damaging it. You can only replace the jewel once in an item of equipment.

Using more jewels in a move can make it feel more comfortable and is typically used for aesthetic reasons. In addition to improving performance, the jewels also create an outer layer that is more durable than metal, which means that repeated friction from pivots doesn't cause harm as easily.

Trinkets

Trinkets are small pieces of equipment that bestow a wide range of small, but beneficial benefits to your hero. They can be acquired starting in the areas of starting as loot, personal story rewards, from vendors, or by doing road interactions. They can also be found on the Trading Post, or crafted by jewelers.

The first trinket that a player will unlock is the cloak. It provides a tiny but valuable boost in movement speed and the ability to evade. After that, they can purchase amulets, rings and necklaces in a similar way to how a player can acquire armor and weapons. Each piece of equipment has one upgrade slot that accepts either a universal or a jewel upgrade. Universal upgrades are smaller and are able to be used on any device. Jewels cannot be upgraded or replaced and are only compatible with certain trinkets.

These trinkets can also grant buffs and skills that remain active even when the character is not in combat. This allows a hero to be more efficient while inactive. It can also compensate for the lack of a good slot in the talent tree or team that are normally filled by a hero's top stats.

A good general rule of thumb for trinket upgrades is to prioritize BiS (Best item upgrader-in-Slot) items that you will not replace in the near future, then any items with desirable stats but less important than the iLevel of the item that is being upgraded. This is especially true when you are looking to upgrade items multiple stats on an item upgrade. It's more beneficial to upgrade a single important stat instead of two subpar ones.

At the beginning of the game, players who are in the jungle will typically want to upgrade their yellow trinket to a red in the middle and top players will usually opt for a green or pink ward (depending on the matchup). These choices will have an impact on the ability of a hero to control the map.

In addition to the items listed above, players may also find a number of other trinkets in the game in the form of awards and trophies. These can be earned by completing certain milestones within the story, such as completing a chapter's main quest or killing a certain boss.
