Drip coffee makers are robust machines capable of brewing without hands. However, they can be big and bulky and take up valuable counter space or an area under the cabinet.

The top drip machines are sleek and simple to use. Some are equipped with extras that make a morning cup of coffee more customized, like programmable timers and self-cleaning settings.

1. De'Longhi TrueBrew

The De'Longhi TrueBrew is an all-in-one shop for coffee. It can be made from whole beans to a full carafe using just a few presses. It has a built in burr grinder (taken from the espresso machines of De'Longhi) that calculates the proper amount of grounds and then compacts them prior to making coffee, eliminating plastic pods and filters.

Manufacturers love to dream up absurd technical jargons and this one includes the Bean Extract Technology which "adapts and precisely grinds" the beans based on the choice you make. This is all marketing. It's important that it's easy to use, efficient and doesn't create a lot of mess when making espresso. However, it does lack the ability to brew either a long or short shot of espresso and doesn't have steam wands for milk. If you're looking for these features, I recommend looking into the Moccamaster KBGV Select instead.

2. Cuisinart MultiServe

This is among the top drip coffee makers on the market. It makes consistently delicious hot cups of coffee that efficiently brew.

We also enjoyed the simplicity of customizing the making process. You can select the size of your cup (from 5-ounce single servings to a full carafe) and the strength you want with the simple turn of an dial and also choose between either a french press or regular setting. You can also make cold brew using the touch of a button, or choose from a range of specialty options like Over Ice and Roasted.

The only downside is that the design isn't as elegant as some of the more sophisticated models we've tried. The controls are simple and easy to use however the machine communicates with tones and chirps rather than a display, which makes it difficult to tell when a cup is ready.

4. Cuisinart Drip Machine

This reliable, mid-priced machine comes with all the features you need to start your day. It comes with a large, 14-cup reservoir and a clear water level indicator window. It is easy to use thanks to the large buttons and clearly labeled labels. The removable filter and grinder can be cleaned easily in the sink. The built-in grinder and ability to control the grind size and strength of your coffee is a nice addition. It takes a little time to learn to use the machine but once you've done it, the machine is easy to use. It has plenty of features you'd expect to find on more expensive models.

The only drawback is that it's not able to brew an entire carafe at one time this could be a problem when you're serving a lot of people. It's still a good option if you're looking to buy drip filter coffee machine coffee maker with a built-in grinder and the flexibility to make different kinds of drinks. It also has a one-year warranty and excellent customer support.

7. Moccamaster KBGV

The Moccamaster KBGV is a premium drip coffee maker designed to last. It comes with a five-year warranty and is made in the Netherlands by Technivorm. The elegant glass carafe can be positioned on top of a warmer which keeps the coffee at a consistent temperature for as long as six minutes. It can be programmed to brew a whole or half pot, and is certified to brew at optimal times and temperatures suggested by the Specialty Coffee Association. It also features a "practically invisible drip stopper" an incredibly small lever that is located beneath the brew pot that stops the flow of coffee if you take away the carafe from the brewing.

Although this machine is more expensive than other machines on the market, it's worth the extra cost for those who wish to enjoy consistently delicious coffee without having to spend too much time in the kitchen. All components that come into contact with water or grounds are easily accessible. The brewing process is slower than other models but still quicker than pour over brewing. Additionally, the Moccamaster's unique design is reminiscent of workshop tools or scientific devices and adds a touch of class to your kitchen.
