World of Warcraft Upgrades and Item Upgrading

Upgrades can boost the value of certain numeric stats on weapons, armor and rings. They also boost extra bonuses such as crit chance and PvE damage.

For instance an item with the upgrade template that is ending in % will take on 3damage to attack each time it is upgraded (relative to its previous value).

The cost for upgrading items increases when they reach the current level of the item. The cost increases with the item's level.

Components

Upgrade components can be added to weapons, armor and trinkets in order to provide them with a boost in stats or to add an additional effect. They can be acquired through crafting, buying from vendors, trading or looting. Some upgrades can also be accompanied by specific cosmetic effects.

Upgrade components can be placed in equipment that has a slot to accommodate them; the item must have been at a minimum upgraded to blue level to allow a component to be used. Like other mods, upgrade components can only be used once; they can't be used multiple times or replaced with upgrades. Infusions and Enrichments are a type of upgrade component that is used to upgrade non-amulet legendary or Ascended equipment, as well as some non-ascended items. Infusions and enrichments can be obtained by salvaging equipment from the ascended state or by completing a mission within the Prophecies, Factions, and Nightfall campaigns.

An upgrade may include a suffix or prefix, modifying the name of the item to the upgrade (for examplethe "Canthan Armor Insignia" becomes Canthan Armor of Minor Vigor). Some upgrades increase the Mark Level or Rarity of an item upgrader, which lets players to create stronger versions using the smallest amount of Upgrade crystals than they require to achieve the same level using standard methods.

A boost upgrade can alter the defense or attack properties of a weapon, or armor. After the player has completed the cutscene and defeated the Crazed Mechanist These upgrades can be crafted at the Portative Forging Station. They can be dropped by enemies when upgrading other gear, or by purchasing them from the cash store for 500 upgrade crystals.

The player is able to have up to five boost upgrades at one time. Each upgrade increases the likelihood that a better-quality version of the item will drop in the next reset. Glyphs, the only upgrade component which can be removed without restriction and then replaced with no restrictions, are the most common. Only legendary equipment can be salvaged and replaced with a Black Lion Salvage Kit.

The value of each Glyph is displayed when you select it from your inventory. You can replace it with an Glyph that is the same or higher rank to boost the value of the Glyph.

Glyphs are available in the Black Lion Trading Post as part of the Gem Store bundle or purchase, with certain unlimited-use tools as well as during Faction Crypt Raids. Each Faction Crypt can drop one of these Glyphs. There are also some rare glyphs you can find in any of the Faction Crypts.

Leveling

Once enough points are earned you will be eligible to claim the upgrade and get its extra bonuses.

When an item is upgraded by a player to a higher level, the original item is replaced by a new item level upgrade of the same type. The same armor can be transformed into a weapon or a shield when upgraded. The new item also has its own bonus. This can be a downside, as the item can become more expensive even if you do not need it.

If the player has enough tokens they can roll item upgrades. The item will be replaced by the same item, but it has a level 1 basis and completely different bonuses. This can be useful for some items, but it shouldn't be performed frequently, since it could waste a lot of resources.

Some upgrades can be rerolled multiple times which increases their value and allows the player to modify their equipment. Dolphin's Gift is a good example, since it grants an increase in power if the player is repeatedly in or leaves the water. The item can be upgraded many times and increases the maximum roll each time by 10 increments. This item is very valuable in PvP. A properly rolled version can be worth 50 times the value of its unupgraded counterpart.

Requirements

The ability to upgrade items allows players to upgrade the quality of their equippable equipment - weapons, armor, and trinkets that are above ilvl 385 by offering the appropriate currency and items to an NPC who upgrades items. Upgrades to armor set pieces also boost the defense of the base set, while upgrades to weapon items increase their base damage and also increase their strength and dexterity.

All items are upgradeable up to five times except for hero equipment, which can be upgraded eight times. Every time you upgrade an item upgrader kit, it is given the chance to fail. When an item is upgraded, the upgrades are applied in order from lowest to highest. This means that when a weapon is upgraded, if it gains a crit chance increase that it will be applied prior to any damage to attack increases. The amount of resources needed to upgrade an item is determined by its rarity rating and the number of upgrade slots. The cost of upgrading non-premium equipment is equivalent to the value of the base item. Premium items have different upgrade requirements as compared to standard equipment, for instance, they may require fewer sowels, but more minerals and erons.
