WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades can give you boosts in specific stats. Each upgrade boosts the level of an item by 3. A random substat is also increased with every upgrade.

The upgraded gear is usually more valuable, unless the Item Level Upgrade has low requirements by nature (like FB sorc shields) or has a large variance in stats (like Eth Titan weapons). The latter are less valuable from upgrading due to the necessity to roll for a perfect model.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader allows players to upgrade their gear by offering the currency to an NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any kind of weapon or armor. However, the item that is used to upgrade will be consumed forever and will not be able to be used again. Upgrades can also be used to create the enchantments.

You can upgrade your gear anytime by visiting the upgrader in any major city. To ensure that your equipment is up-to-date it is recommended that you visit the upgrader each several weeks.

The cost of upgrading will vary based on the current level of the item being upgraded, but will always be less expensive than buying new equipment from other sources. For example, upgrading a Benthic chest piece to ilvl 385 will cost 20 recycle points, while purchasing the same item from another player will costs 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that can be used to upgrade weapons, armor, tools, and accessory upgrades. They are purchased by players through NPCs that sell upgrades to items in exchange for various currencies, and can also be found in random treasure lists. Once an upgrade has been purchased it can be applied to any weapon, tool, or armor using an button, which will show an item's preview at its next upgrade level if the player has sufficient materials.

Upgrade costs differ based on the slot of the item and the current level of the item. For instance weapons are more expensive than bracers, or gloves. Each upgrade cost 15 Flightstones and a variety of crests, with some upgrades having a discount to reduce the cost of Flightstones or crests that are used. Once an item has been upgraded to a certain level, it can be degraded and returned to the upgrader for a lower amount of both currency types.

Many locations have upgraders for their items which include the main island and some outposts. The NPCs provide both an upgrade discount and a chance to get a brand new upgrade recipe. The discount on upgrades increases depending on the amount of items that are being upgraded. It is also possible to be boosted by requiring players to complete specific achievements or quests.

Icewind Dale does not have an item upgrader at start unlike Cromwell from Baldur's Gate II. Instead, the NPCs that are available to help with upgrades are acquired via several methods that are both an improvement but also a drawback.

In Season 3, the upgrade system was tweaked a bit, with several new features added. Once the player has upgraded to a certain item upgrader kit level for an armor slot upgrading other items to the same item level will cost less. This applies even if the items are from another set of gear.

The amount of Valorstones required for upgrades is reduced, and the discount is affixed to all accounts. Similarly, the amount of Harbinger Crests required for upgrades is also cut and is not available until players have reached certain milestones in their achievement.

Crests

When upgrading gear in WoW players have a few options. Flightstones are a currency that is available to everyone for upgrading. Crests are more specialized, and are used during specific item level upgrades. Crests are an essential part of the Dragonflight gear progression system that was introduced in 10.1, and come in four ranks.

First, you must be aware that crests are only available for gear that is of a particular rank. Each rank comes with distinct upgrade paths. The most basic and straightforward upgrade route costs 15 crests while the most complicated can require as much as 20 crests, based on the type of equipment that is being upgraded.

Players can obtain crests by completing content of the appropriate level, which involves walking around and engaging in outdoor activities for lower-tier gear, raids or dungeons with all difficulty for items of higher tier or Mythic+ heroic raid bosses or dungeons for endgame gear. The crests can later be exchanged at an Best item upgrade upgrader NPC, like Cuzolth in Dornogal, or Vaskarn in Valdrakken to obtain the appropriate upgrade paths and steps.

Utilizing these new currencies isn't too difficult, but the system introduces some modifications to the upgrade item process. For instance, once an item is at the highest level of upgrading for any rank (Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, or Mythic), it will no longer require Flightstones to be upgraded. This change lets players upgrade their equipment to the highest level possible on all their characters rather than relying on seasonal loot.

It's also important to use crests wisely, as they have only one purpose. For instance it's Best item upgrader to utilize all of your Whelpling rank crests on the top gear you have available and save Drake and Wyrm crests for the next round of upgrades you're planning to create. This is particularly applicable to rings and trinkets that take up multiple slots on the character, which will only be able to benefit from the account-wide discount if all of the slots are full of high-quality equipment.
