The Best Robot Hoover

The best robot hoover can mop and vacuum without needing your attention, and will leave your floors clean. Its low cost and top-of-the-line features (such as dirt detector) are positives.

Make sure you regularly examine the brushes of your robot for tangled hair as well as large debris and clean them as needed. 1. Roomba Q5 Pro

Like other top iRobot models (including the top choice), they use intelligent mapping technology to create detailed floor plans and avoid common obstacles like cords and furniture legs. The robots also have a feature called Carpet Boost that increases its power when it detects dirt on the carpet.

The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored very well in our tests on floors that were bare and are especially adept at cleaning dog hair. However, they do have a few flaws however, which hinder them from being our first choice. For instance, the Q5's navigation system doesn't have AI-powered obstacle avoidance, so it's prone to getting hung up on shoes and socks and can't navigate tightly packed rooms very efficiently in our tests. It also doesn't have cameras that let it see the corners of a room.

It's still a great deal, especially if your office or home has lots of unfinished floors and you're looking to save money. It's also very quiet and works while you're at work or in school. It doesn't have the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming available in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective at mopping. It is dependent on disposable wet wipes that don't adhere very well and cannot handle dried-on debris. The Q5 is self-emptying cradle however. And, if you have to, you can switch the mopping pad to dry ones in a matter of minutes.

2. iRobot Roomba X30

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive mopping and vacuuming into a compact, sleek package. Its nimble navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it quick to clean and efficient at tackling larger particles like pet hair. It also features self-emptying dustbins with powerful suction and support for virtual boundaries. It's the most efficient robotic hoover for carpets, but it falls behind some competitors when it comes to deep cleaning.

This high-performance vacuum and mop uses sensors that help it keep away from obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the patterns of your home over time and provide cleaner and more efficient cleaning. The app lets you customize zones and change the cleaning schedule. Its battery life is average compared to similar models.

You can instruct the X30 Ultra to remove its mops and to extend them when it's in a carpeted area which prevents cross-contamination. Its flex arm is perfect to get under furniture with low levels and along baseboards. However, it's not equipped with the same level of washboard performance as our other Editors' Choice picks, the Ecovacs Deebot Ozmo N8 Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.

During testing, X30 Ultra was the fastest robot vacuum/mop to complete the task of cleaning a whole home and had 66 percent of its battery remaining. It also did a good job cleaning a variety of floors and rooms that had various flooring types, such as certain area carpets. Its obstacle detection was superb and it stayed clear of fake dog turds, socks, shoes and bundles of cables.

It's a little more expensive than the iRobot Combo v9+ and iRobot Roomba j9+, but it has superior suction, a built-in dust bin that automatically empties into its base, and also supports voice commands through Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can clean the floor even after it vacuums. This is a feature we haven't seen in other robot vacuum/mop combination.

3. IRobot Roomba X40

This robot vacuum and mop combination features a sleek, circular design that appears more like a regular Roomba unit than the boxy units of the rivals. It's among our most appealing looking robot vacuums. The latest model from iRobot is also the most intelligent. It has advanced features such as enhanced dirt detection and future compatibility (another company's robot that is able to wash mop pads on its own).

It's the only robotic mop or automatic vacuum cleaner that scored a perfect 10 in our evaluations thanks to a blend of high-tech sensors that include cameras, a structured light system and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could fill and empty its basestation in a self-contained manner. It also boasted a suction of 12,000Pa as well as self-cleaning mop mops.

The X40 is, like the other iRobot products, is simple to use. It comes with an intuitive mobile app interface that is compatible with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only drawback is that the X40 still a noisy unit. This can be a problem in the mornings prior to work or during the night when you're trying to sleep.

It's also quite expensive, although it's not as pricey as the Ecovacs X2 Omni or Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra, both of which are similarly capable and better-looking. If you're willing to put up some more volume and a little more cost it's a capable two-in-one that should please almost everyone.

4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop, with a variety of sophisticated features to help you get rid of your chores. Like Ecovacs the range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-free cleaning machine that takes charge of both mopping and vacuuming. It comes with a multi-function dock that automatically empties the vacuum's trash bin, refills its water tank, and washes and dries its mop pads.

The smart robot makes use of an array of LIDAR and structured light to map out the floor plan and detect obstacles, making it more efficient than its top rivals. It also has a front mounted camera for real-time detection of hazards but this wasn't 100% reliable in our tests and was often confused with power cords or obstructions.

Its vacuum has a maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals, which is more than enough to get the job done. It also has "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates the intensity at which the automatic vacuum cleaner and mop works and also alters the frequency of cleaning for various areas of the house in accordance with the degree of dirt they are.

For larger houses it's recommended to choose models with spot or zone cleaning modes that allow you to instruct the robot cleaner with mop to clean a particular area of your house via the app or voice controls. A stairway mode is beneficial if you have large furniture. For families with busy schedules recharge functions and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum that vacuums and mops vacuum to resume where it left off could be very useful.

iRobot RX3

The RX3 is a smarter cleaner than you'd imagine from its price. It is a great job vacuuming, removing 55% of the debris that was found in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops using a single pad and a reciprocating motion which is cleaner than the majority of the robot mop cleaners that we've examined. It's also self-sufficient, with a fully-featured app as well as an auto-emptying, washable base.

The well-designed iRobot app guides you through an initial mapping exercise that collects information about your floorplan as well as any "no-go" areas you have marked on the map. You can use it to make cleaning schedules, set up the perfect spot for cleaning or prioritise your dirtiest rooms for better performance. The app has a range of features, including seasonal suggestions, custom mapping and advanced cleaning settings.

It also has the ability to reach corners and under furniture better because its shape is more rectangular. It also has a powerful 8,000 Pascal suction and combs with intelligent technology for pet hair. You can also create a spot-cleaner that will thoroughly clean the area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a more sleek, cheaper alternative to iRobot Roomba. It's got a more attractive, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras look like cute eyes. It does a good job vacuuming, but it is more susceptible to get caught on low thresholds and is a bit noisier than the other top robotic cleaner and mop vacuums we've tried. It also comes with an app that is less intuitive and a small base station that doesn't double as a bin to empty.
