The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored excellently in our tests on floors that were bare, and they are particularly adept in removing dog hair. However, they have a few flaws that keep them from being our top choice. One of the flaws of the Q5 is its navigation system doesn't feature AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's thus susceptible to getting stuck on shoes and socks, and it couldn't navigate through rooms with a lot of people well during our tests. It also doesn't have cameras that let it see the corners of the room.

However, it's a good choice to consider, particularly if you're looking to save money on an Roomba from iRobot and have a bare-floored home or office. It's also very quiet and operates while you're at work or school. The only thing it lacks that you won't find in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on bare floors. It's also less effective at mopping, relying on disposable wet wipes that don't hold on very well and can't take on dried-on debris. The Q5 is self-emptying cradle, however. And, if you have to, you can swap the mopping pad for dry ones in just a few seconds.

2. IRobot Roomba X30

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive mopping and vacuuming capabilities into a compact, sleek package. Its nimble navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it easy to clean and efficient in taking on larger particles, such as pet hair. It also features an impressive suction system and a self-emptying bin. It's the best robot hoover for carpets but it isn't as effective as some of its competitors in terms of deep cleaning.

This high-performance vacuum and mops utilizes sensors to keep away from obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the patterns of your home over time to offer better cleaning. You can modify its cleaning schedule and set up zones through the well-designed app. Its battery life is average when compared to similar models.

It is possible to instruct the X30 Ultra to remove its mops and to extend them when it's in a room with carpet, which helps prevent cross-contamination. Its flex arm is great to get under furniture with low levels and along baseboards. It's more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but has superior suction and an onboard bin that is automatically empty into the base. It also supports voice commands via Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can even clean the floor after vacuuming this feature, which we've not seen on other robot vacuum/mop combinations.

3. Roomba X40 from iRobot

With a sleek, circular design that looks like a regular Roomba than the competitors' boxes this robot vacuum and mop combo is among the most attractive designs in our reviews. The latest model from iRobot is its most advanced, with advanced features including Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can wash its own mop pads).

It's also the only robot vacuum/mop that scored a perfect 10 out of 10 in our testing. This is thanks to the combination of high-tech sensors including a structured light system, a camera and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot in our tests that can completely self-refill and empty its base station and it has an industry-leading 12,000Pa suction and self-cleaning mop pads.

Like other iRobot models like the X40 is user-friendly, with an easy mobile app interface and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit as well as Google Assistant. The only drawback is that it's still quite a noisy unit which could be problematic if you run it in the morning before work or at night as you try to sleep.

It's also somewhat expensive, although it's not as expensive as the Ecovacs Omni or Roborock's S8 MaxV Ultra both of which are similarly capable and more attractive. This is a dual-purpose vacuum that's very capable however it's going to cost you more and create more noise.

4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the best robot vacuum and mop. It has a number of advanced features that will make you forget about your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaner like Ecovacs the top of the line X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It comes with a multi-function dock that will automatically empty the vacuum's bin and fills up the water tank, as well as washes and dry the mop pads.

The smart robot cleaner with mop uses a combination of LIDAR and structured light to map out floor plans and spot obstacles, navigating more intelligently than some of its premium competitors. It also has a camera mounted on the front for real-time hazard detection however, it wasn't 100% foolproof during our tests and was occasionally confused by power cords or other obstructions.

The vacuum has a suction capacity of 7,000 Pascals, which is more than enough to get the job done. It also comes with an attribute called "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the power of the auto vacuum and mop and adjusts cleaning frequency for different areas of the house based on how dirty those areas tend to be.

If you have a larger home, you should consider selecting a model with a spot or zone cleaning mode. This lets you instruct the robot on which part of your home needs to be cleaned by using the app or voice control. A stairway mode is useful if you have a lot furniture. For families that are busy, a recharge function and resume feature that permits your robot vacuum to continue from where it left off can be extremely useful.

5. iRobot Roomba RX3

The RX3 is more sophisticated than its price would suggest. It has a great vacuuming performance, picking up 55% debris in our tests. (It was only second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops with one pad, which uses a reciprocating motion, which cleans better than most of the other robot mop cleaners we've tested. It's also highly self-sufficient, with a fully-featured application, and a self emptying, washable base.

The well-designed iRobot app will guide you through an initial mapping session that collects data about your floorplan and any "no-go" areas you mark on the map. You can use it to make cleaning schedules, set up a spot clean or to prioritize your most filthy rooms to ensure better performance. The app also gives access to a variety of features, such as seasonal suggestions, custom maps, and advanced settings for your cleaning.

It is also able to reach corners and under furniture better because its shape is more rectangular. It has an impressive 8000 Pascal suction, as well as clever combs for removing pet hair. You can also create a spot-cleaner that will thoroughly clean an area.
