Some cribs with a bedside baby bed have the option of a side panel that could be adjusted to lower, allowing you an easy access to your baby without having to step out of bed. This is a great option for breastfeeding mothers, or those who want to be with their baby throughout the night, but don't want to be at risk of co-sleeping (which is associated to a higher risk of SIDS).

Georgina who took part in the MFM test was capable of putting it together in a matter of minutes without needing to consult any instructions. It's also a great travel cot, which folds flat and slipping into a bag for easy storage.

The Next2me Magic, which was shortlisted for the Best Cot, Crib or Moses Basket at the 2021 Mother&Baby Awards, is also on the larger side but is still relatively small and easy to put onto your bed. Georgina found it straightforward to put together, however she was not convinced that the zips could have been more clearly explained on the instruction manual.

Easy to clean

Find cribs with removable mattress covers that can be washed in the machine when looking at bedside cribs or travel cots. This will keep it clean and free of dribbles, leaky diapers, and spit-up. It's an excellent idea to choose a product that is easily disassembled and partially dismantled, to allow you access to all the nooks and crannies for an efficient cleaning and sanitising.

Some cribs can be converted into a travel cot bedside or include additional features such as rocking, tilting (use with caution, make sure to talk to your GP regarding this) or changing into a baby cot for older children or playpen.
