The Band Toto

Albums

Toto's discography includes 13 studio albums and four live albums. There are also a few compilations. Toto has released original music and collaborated with other artists on soundtracks and films. The group has won multiple Grammy Awards.

Before Toto was formed The members of the band did sessions for other musicians. Drummer Jeff Porcaro, bassist David Hungate, and keyboardist David Paich (the son of session drummer Marty Paich and brother of guitarist Joe Porcaro) played on Boz Scaggs album from 1975 Silk Degrees. Toto was formed in the year 1976 following the collaboration.

Turn Back, Toto's third studio album, was criticized by critics for not having hit singles. In 1985 the group's lead singer Fergie Fredericksen quit the group, and they held auditions to find a new frontman. Guitarist Steve Lukather was chosen, and the band recorded the album Fahrenheit in 1986.

In 1998, Toto celebrated its 20th anniversary by re-discovering old demos and tapes to release a special record called Toto XX. The album was well-received by fans, and Toto embarked on an extensive tour with former members Bobby Kimball Steve Porcaro and Joseph Williams.

Shem Von Schröck replaced Leland Sklar as drummer on the tour in support of the 40 Trips Around the Sun album. In 2017, Toto released a double-CD live album titled Falling in Between, which included live recordings from the tour as well as an interview with the band.

Toto has released a number of music videos. The band has released a number of compilation videos and DVDs. The most popular video for the band is "Africa", which has over one billion views on YouTube. The video is set in a library with the band performing atop a stack of African books.

The track "Africa" is from the album Toto IV. The song was written by band members and produced by David Paich. It was a big hit in Europe and other countries. The success of the single helped Toto to regain their popularity following their previous album Turn Back failed to chart in America.
