How to upgrade items (click here) in Pokemon GO

The Upgrade is one the most valuable items in Pokemon GO. It allows trainers to transform Porygon2 into Porygon and also progress in their Pokedex.

This item is scarce, but it is available by spinning a Photo Disk at a Pokestop or as a prize during special occasions. But what exactly does this item actually do?

Components

Upgrade components can be added to weapons, trinkets or gathering tools to confer an additional benefit. They are an essential element in crafting and can be gathered by salvaging or bought from vendors. They can also be found in the form of drops, either from enemies or item upgrader spheres.
