WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades provide a guaranteed boost to certain stats. Each upgrade increases the level of an item by +3. Each upgrade also increases the random substatus.

The upgraded gear is usually more valuable, unless the item has a low requirement by nature (like FB sorc shields) or has a large variance in stats (like eth Titan weapons). Upgrades aren't as important for the latter due to the need to roll an exact version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader allows players to upgrade gear to a higher level by supplying the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any type of armor or weapon. The item used to upgrade the item is discarded and cannot be used again. Upgrades can also be applied to the enchantments.

You can upgrade your gear at any time by visiting the upgrader in any major city. It is recommended to visit the upgrader at least once every couple of weeks to keep your equipment up to date.

The cost of upgrading will depend on the current item level of the equipment being upgraded, but will always be cheaper than purchasing new gear from other sources. Upgrades like upgrading a Benthic chest to 385 ilvl will cost you 20 recycle points. Buying a similar item upgrades will cost you 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that can be used to upgrade weapons, armor, tools, and accessory upgrades. They can be bought by players from item upgrader NPCs in exchange for a variety of currencies, and can be found in random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade can be applied to any weapon, tool, or armor. The button will show a preview of an item upgrading's next upgrade level, if there are enough materials.

The cost of upgrades varies based on the slot of the item and the current item level and the weapon's price is higher than gloves or bracers for example. Each upgrade cost 15 Flightstones and a variety of crests, with some upgrades having a discount to reduce the cost of the Flightstones or the crests used. After an item has been upgraded to a certain level, it can be downgraded and sold to the upgrader for a lower price.

Item upgraders can be found in many places including the main island, as well as a few outposts. The NPCs offer an upgrade coupon and a possibility of obtaining the latest recipe. The upgrade discount increases with the number of items being upgraded. It can also be increased by having players complete specific achievements or complete quests.

Contrary to Cromwell in Baldur's Gate II, there is no item upgrader available in the beginning of Icewind Dale. The NPCs who can facilitate upgrades are only accessible through a variety means. This is both a benefit as well as an issue.

In Season 3, the upgrade system has been modified a bit, and numerous new features added. Once a player obtains an upgrade to a specific level for an item in an armor slot, upgrading additional items to the same level will cost less even in the event that they belong to an entirely different set of gear.

Crests

When upgrading equipment in WoW, players have a few options. Flightstones are a currency that is available to all players for upgrading. Crests are more specialized, and are used during specific upgrades to the level of an item upgrader kit. Crests are a crucial part of the Dragonflight Gear Progression System that was introduced in version 10.1. They come in four ranks.

First, you must be aware that crests are only available for equipment that is that is of a particular rank. Each rank has an upgrade item path that is different. The simplest and easiest upgrade is 15 crests. The most complex upgrade can require up to 20 crests, depending on the type of gear that is being upgraded.

Players can earn crests through completing content of the appropriate level, whether that means walking around and doing outdoor activities to get lower-tier gear, raids or dungeons of all difficulties for higher-tier items, or Mythic+ heroic raid bosses and dungeons to obtain endgame gear. These crests can be exchanged with an item upgrader, such as Cuzolth or Vaskarn, in Valdrakken for the appropriate upgrade steps and paths.

Using these new currencies isn't that difficult, but the system will introduce a few modifications to the upgrade process. For instance, when an item is at the highest upgrade level of any rank (Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, or Mythic), it will no longer require Flightstones to be upgraded. This is to allow players to get their equipment up to the highest ilvl possible on all their characters, rather than relying solely on seasonal loot.

It's also important to use crests with care, since they have only one purpose. It is best to use your Whelpling-rank crests on the highest-quality gear you can locate, and keep Drake and Wyrm Crests for the next set of upgrades. This is especially true for items such as trinkets and rings that take up several slots. The account-wide discount will only be applicable if all slots on the character are filled with top-quality equipment.
