WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades will give you a boosts in certain stats. Each upgrade increases item level by 3. Each upgrade also boosts the random substatus.

The upgraded gear is usually more valuable, unless it has a low requirement by nature (like FB sorc shields) or has a high variance in stats (like Eth Titan weapons). Upgrades are not as important for those with higher variance due to the requirement to roll the perfect version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader allows players to upgrade gear to a higher item level by providing the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any type of armor or weapon. However, the item used for the upgrade will remain in use for a long time and cannot be used again. Upgrades can be used to create Enchantments.

The upgrader can be found in all major cities, and can be accessed at any time to upgrade your equipment. It is recommended that you visit the upgrader at least once every couple of weeks to keep your equipment up to date.

The cost of upgrading will be based on the current level of the Item level upgrade being upgraded however, they will always be cheaper than buying new gear from other sources. Upgrades like upgrading a Benthic chest to the level of ilvl385 will cost you 20 recycle points. If you purchase a similar item, it will cost you 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are useful items which can be used to upgrade weapons, tools, armor, and accessories. Players can purchase them from NPCs of item upgraders for various currencies. They can also find them on random treasure lists. Once an upgrade has been purchased, it can be applied to any weapon or tool using a button, which will display an item's preview when it is upgraded when the player has enough materials.

The cost of upgrading varies based on the item slot, and the current level of the item upgrader kit. For example weapons cost more than bracers, or gloves. Each step costs 15 Flightstones plus a set number of crests. Certain upgrades provide a discount on the Flightstones. After an item has been upgraded to a certain amount and is degraded, it can be sold and returned to the upgrader for a lower amount of both currencies.

Upgraders for items are available in many places including the main island and some outposts. The NPCs offer both an upgrade coupon and the possibility of getting a new recipe. The discount for upgrades increases according to the number of items being upgraded. It is also possible to be increased by requiring players to complete specific achievements or quests.

Icewind Dale does not have an upgrader for items at the beginning, unlike Cromwell from Baldur's Gate II. Instead, the NPCs that are available to facilitate upgrades require several methods which is both an improvement and a drawback.

In Season 3 the upgrade system has been altered a bit, with some new features added. After an upgrade has been completed to a certain level of item level upgrade for an armor slot, upgrading other items to the same item level will cost less. This applies regardless of whether the items come from a different set of gear.

The discount is applicable to all accounts. Similarly, the amount of Harbinger Crests required to upgrade is also reduced and is not available until players have reached certain achievement milestones.

Crests

When upgrading equipment in WoW players have a few options. Flightstones are a currency that is available to all players for upgrading. Crests are more specific and are used for specific item level upgrades. Crests are the main component of the Dragonflight gear progression system that was introduced in 10.1 and are available in 4 ranks.

The first thing to remember is that crests are only available for equipment that is of a certain rank. Each rank has distinct upgrade paths. The simplest and easiest upgrade is 15 crests. The most complex upgrade requires up to 20 crests, contingent on the kind of equipment being upgraded.

Players can earn crests through working through content that is of the appropriate level, whether that means walking around and doing outdoor activities for gear of lower tiers, dungeons or raids of all difficulties for higher-tier items, or Mythic+ dungeons or heroic raid bosses for endgame gear. The crests can later be exchanged at an upgrader NPC like Cuzolth in Dornogal, or Vaskarn in Valdrakken to get the appropriate upgrade routes and steps.

Utilizing these new currencies isn't too difficult however, the system will introduce a few modifications to the upgrade process. When a piece attains the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer or Adventurer), it no longer requires Flightstones. This change is intended to allow players to upgrade items their equipment to the highest ilvl possible for all their characters instead of relying only on seasonal loot.

Another notable change is that crests only have one purpose therefore it's essential to make use of them in a responsible manner. For instance it's best to utilize all of your Whelpling rank crests with the best gear you have available and then keep Drake and Wyrm crests for the next round of upgrades you plan on making. This is particularly true for items such as trinkets and rings that fill several slots. The discount on the account will only be applicable if all slots on the character are filled with high-quality equipment.
