WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades will give you a boosts in certain statistics. Each upgrade boosts the item level by +3. A random extra substat is also added to every upgrade.

Upgraded gear is generally more useful, unless the item is not required by nature (like FB sorc shields) or has a large variance in stats (like eth Titan weapons). These types of gear get less value from upgrading due to the requirement to roll for a perfect model.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader kit upgrader lets players upgrade their gear by giving the currency to an NPC. Upgrades can be applied on any kind of armor or weapons. However, the item used to upgrade will be consumed for the duration of time and cannot be used again. Upgrades can be applied to enchantments.

You can upgrade your gear anytime by visiting the upgrader in any major city. To keep your gear up-to-date it is recommended that you visit the upgrader each few weeks.

The cost of upgrading will vary based on the current level of the item being upgraded but they will always be cheaper than purchasing new gear from other sources. For instance upgrading a Benthic chest to 385 ilvl will cost 20 recycle points, purchasing a similar piece from a different player will cost 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are functional items that are used to improve the quality of weapons, tools, armor, and accessories. They can be bought by players from NPCs who sell upgrades for items in exchange for various currencies, and may also be found in random treasure lists. Once an upgrade is purchased, it can be applied to any weapon or tool with an button, which will display an item upgrader mod's preview at its next upgrade items level when the player has enough materials.

Upgrade costs differ based on the slot of the item level upgrade and the current level of the item. For instance, weapons will cost more than bracers, or gloves. Each step costs 15 Flightstones plus a certain number of crests. Some upgrades offer discounts on Flightstones. Once an Item Level Upgrade is upgraded to a certain degree it can be re-downgraded and sold to the upgrader at a lower cost.

Many locations offer item upgraders, including the main Island and some outposts. The NPCs provide both an upgrade discount and the chance to acquire a new upgrade recipe. The upgrade discount increases when more items are upgraded. It can also be increased by having players complete certain achievements or quests.

Icewind Dale does not have an upgrader for items at the start unlike Cromwell from Baldur's gate II. Instead the NPCs that are available to facilitate upgrades must be acquired through several methods, which is both an improvement but also a drawback.

In Season 3 the upgrade system has been tweaked a bit, with several new features added. Once a player has upgraded to a specific level for an armor slot upgrading other items to the same level, will cost less. This is true even if those items are from a different set of equipment.

The discount is applicable to all accounts. The amount of Harbinger Crests needed to upgrade is reduced too, but it is only available after certain milestones are reached.

Crests

Players have several choices when it comes to upgrading their equipment in WoW. Flightstones are an item that is available to everyone for upgrading. Crests are more special, and are used during specific item level upgrades. Crests are a crucial element of the Dragonflight Gear Progression System that was introduced in version 10.1. They come in four ranks.

The first thing to note is that crests can only be spent on equipment of a particular rank, and each rank has different requirements for its upgrade path. The simplest and most straightforward upgrade path costs 15 crests, while the most complicated requires as many as 20 crests depending on the kind of gear that is being upgraded.

Players can earn crests through finishing tasks at the appropriate level. This could be by doing outdoor activities, or by doing dungeons or raids in all difficulties to get lower-tier gear or Mythicbosses for raids, or dungeons that have a high difficulty for endgame gear. These crests can then be exchanged at an upgrader NPC, such as Cuzolth in Dornogal, or Vaskarn in Valdrakken, for the appropriate upgrade paths and steps.

Using these new currencies isn't that difficult, but the system introduces some modifications to the upgrade process. When a piece of equipment has reached the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer or Adventurer) it will no longer require Flightstones. This change lets players upgrade their equipment to the highest possible level for all their characters, instead of relying on seasonal loot.

Another notable change is that crests have one use therefore it's essential to use them wisely. For instance, it's best to utilize all of your Whelpling rank crests on the top gear you have available, and then save Drake and Wyrm crests for the next round of upgrades you plan on making. This is especially true for items such as rings and trinkets that occupy multiple slots. The discount on the account will only be applicable if all the slots on the character are filled with high-quality gear.
