It vacuums the carpeted areas extremely quickly, and hardwood floors in the kitchen, living room, and hallways in a single pass. Its 8,000pa motor is able to pick up dirt as well as pet hair and droppings with ease. Carpet detection boosts power automatically when it encounters rugs and the dual side brushes help pull out dirt from corners.

However, if you are buying this vacuum solely for mopping purposes it is important to pay attention to this.

The X1 Omni's biggest draw is its massive dock, which doubles as the robot's charging base and housing for two 4-liter water tanks, a sink for cleaning and an automatic 2.5-liter dust bin that automatically empties.

The base comes with several control buttons, which allow you to manually begin a cleaning task or recall the robot, or run the dock's automatic emptying procedure. Hold down two buttons to turn off the child lock. This is a great feature for parents who are concerned about their kids messing around with the vacuum.

Like other robotic vacuums the Omni Omni uses its camera to detect furniture and obstacles in its path and avoid them. True Mapping 2.0 navigation maps your home up to four times faster than laser detection systems.

Unfortunately, this means that the X1 Omni could sometimes get so entangled with obstacles, like the power cord that is draped across a rug, that it gets stuck and ceases to function until you manually free it. This was a rare occurrence however, it was a bit frustrating since the X1 does not have an "stuck status" alert on its application.

Another potential downside is one of the biggest drawbacks is X1 Omni's inability to automatically switch between vacuuming and mopping modes during the cleaning process. You will have to manually switch between the two modes, which isn't too bad however, the mopping pad doesn't get washed or dried between uses. This could lead to mildew and mold.

On the positive side the X1 Omni is a beautiful-looking robot thanks to the design team at Jacob Jensen (of Bang & Olufsen fame) who conceptualized its sleek, modern-looking base and mopping pad apparatus. It's a significant departure from the utilitarian all-black bases of competitors like Roborock or iRobot. And it's a welcome sight for a market dominated by clunky boxes.
