If you're in need of it clean the mopping pad, it can be replaced with one that is wet in just a few minutes.

2. IRobot Roomba

The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact elegant vacuum cleaner that can sweep floors. It has advanced features such as Enhanced Dirt Detection as well as future compatibility (another company's robot that can wash mop pads in a self-cleaning manner).

It's also the sole robot vacuum or mop that scored a perfect 10 out of 10 in our testing. This is thanks to the combination of high-tech sensors, including a structured light system, camera and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could refill and empty its basestation in a self-contained manner. It also boasted an industry-leading suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop mops.

The X40 is, like the other iRobot products, is simple to operate. It comes with a simple mobile app interface that integrates with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only issue is that it's an eerily noisy device that could be a problem if you run it in the morning prior to work, or at night when you try to fall asleep.

It's also a bit costly, but not as expensive as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or the Roborock S8 Omni, which are equally impressive and attractive. If you're willing to live with a bit more noise and a little more cost, this is a very efficient two-in-one device that should satisfy most people.

iRobot L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop with a lot of advanced features that will let you forget about your chores. Similar to Ecovacs the range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-free cleaning machine that can take charge of both mopping and vacuuming, with a multifunction dock that automatically empty the vacuum's dustbin, refills its water tank, cleans and dry its mop pads.

The smart robot uses LIDAR and structured lighting to map out floor plans and detect obstacles. It can navigate more efficiently than its competitors with premium features. It also comes with a front-mounted camera that can detect hazards in real-time but this wasn't foolproof in our tests and was often confused with power cords or obstructions.

Its vacuum cleaner has an maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to complete the task. It also features "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates how hard the vac works and alters the frequency of cleaning for various areas of the house according to how dirty they tend to be.

For bigger homes it's recommended to choose models that has zone or spot cleaning modes that let you tell the robot to clean a specific area of your home via the app or via voice commands. You can use it to create cleaning schedules, arrange a spot clean or to sort out your rooms with the most dirt to ensure better performance. The app also provides access to a variety of options, including seasonal suggestions, custom maps, and advanced settings for your cleaning robot mop and vacuum.
