The Best Robot Hoover

The best robot hoover can clean and mop without requiring your attention. It will leave your floors spotless. Its surprisingly affordable price and features that are high-end (such as dirt detection) are a plus.

Examine your robot's brush regularly for tangled debris as well as hair. Wash them if needed. Some models also self-empty their dust bin on board into a larger bin at the base, which reduces the amount of fine dust released into the air.

1. Roomba Q5 pro

The Q5 Pro and its sibling, the more expensive Q7 Max Series, are among the most powerful robot vacuums we've tested. They have motors that are top-of-the line and can suction up to 5,500 Pascals. As with other top iRobot models (including the top choice) they utilize intelligent mapping technology to create detailed floor plans and avoid household obstacles such as cords and furniture legs. They also come with carpet boost, a feature that boosts the robot's performance when it sees the presence of dirt on the carpet in order to get it cleaned quickly.

Both the Q5 and Q7 Max Series get very excellent scores in our floor tests that test for bare floors and are particularly effective in cleaning pet hair. There are some issues however, which prevent them from being our top choice. One of them is that the Q5's navigation system doesn't include AI-powered obstacle avoidance which means it's susceptible to get caught up in shoes and socks, and is unable to navigate tightly packed rooms very well in our tests. It also doesn't come with a camera to look around corners.

It's still a great option to consider, particularly if you're looking to save money on a Roomba from iRobot, and you have a mostly bare-floor home or office. It's also very quiet and operates while you're at work or school. It's not equipped with the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming feature that's offered in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective at mopping. It relies on disposable wet wipes that don't adhere well and isn't able to handle dried-on debris. The Q5 has a self-emptying cradle, however. If you're in need of it clean the mopping pad, it can be swapped for a wet one in minutes.

2. IRobot Roomba X30

The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact sleek and stylish vacuum cleaner that can also mop floors. Its nimble navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it quick to clean and efficient at tackling larger particles like pet hair. It also features strong suction and self-emptying bin. It's the most efficient robotic hoover for carpets, however it's not as good robot vacuum as other hoovers when it comes to deep cleaning.

This high-performance vacuum and mop uses sensors to stay clear of obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the structure of your home over time and offer better cleaning. The app allows you to customize zones and change the cleaning schedule. It comes with a battery life that is similar to other models.

When the X30 Ultra is in a carpeted space, you can tell it to pull back and extend its mop. This helps prevent cross contamination. The flex arm can be used to reach under furniture with low levels and along baseboards. However, it's not equipped with the same washboard performance as our other Editors' Choice picks, the Ecovacs Deebot Ozmo N8 Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.

During tests, the X30 Ultra was the fastest robot vacuum/mop that could complete an entire home, and it did so with 66 percent of its battery left. It did a decent cleaning job on different flooring and rooms with different flooring types including certain area rug. Its obstacle detection was top notch and it was nimbly avoiding fake dog socks, turds, shoes, and bundles of cables.

It's a bit more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but it has superior suction and an onboard bin that automatically empties into the base. It also supports voice commands via Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can even clean the floor after it vacuums it, something we've not seen on other robotic vacuum/mop combos.

3. Roomba X40 from iRobot

This mop and vacuum combination is sleek and has a circular design that looks more like a regular Roomba model than the boxy models from the rivals. It is one of our most attractive robot vacuums. iRobot's latest flagship model also is its most advanced, with advanced features including Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that is able to wash mop pads).

It's the only robotic vacuum/mop to score an exemplary 10/10 in our evaluations, thanks to a combination of high-tech sensors, which include a camera, structured light system and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could refill and empty its basestation in a self-contained manner. It also boasted a suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mops.

The X40 is, like the other iRobot products, is easy to operate. It comes with an intuitive mobile app interface that is compatible with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only issue is that the X40 still a noisy unit. This can be a concern in the mornings before work or at night when you're trying to sleep.

It's also quite expensive, although it's not as pricey as Ecovacs X2 Omni or the Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra both of which are equally powerful and more attractive. If you're willing to put up with a little more noise and some additional cost, this is a very powerful two-in-one that will please almost everyone.

4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop, with many advanced features that let you get rid of your chores. Similar to Ecovacs range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-free cleaning machine that takes charge of both vacuuming and mopping, with a multifunction dock that automatically empties the vacuum's dustbin, refills its water tank, washes and dry the mop pads.

The smart robot uses LIDAR and structured lighting to create floor plans and detect obstacles. It can navigate more efficiently than its competitors with premium features. It also has a camera mounted on the front to detect hazards in real-time but this was not foolproof in our testing and was occasionally confused by power cords or other obstructions.

Its automatic vacuum cleaner has a high suction maximum of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to complete the task. It also comes with "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates the intensity at which the vacuum works and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for various areas of the house depending on how dirty they are.

If you have a larger home, you should consider selecting a good robot vacuum that comes with spot or zone cleaning mode. This lets you instruct the robot on which part of your home must be cleaned by using the app or voice command. If you have a lot of furniture, a stairway mode is also useful. For families that are busy, a recharge feature and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum to pick up where it left off can be very useful.

iRobot RX3

The RX3 is a more efficient cleaner than you might imagine from its price. It vacuums well and was able to remove 55% of debris in our tests. (It was only second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mopses using a single pad and a rotating motion which is cleaner than the majority mop cleaners for robots that we've examined. It's also self-sufficient, with a fully-featured app as well as an auto-emptying, washable base.

The iRobot application is designed to help you navigate a mapping run that collects data on your floorplan as well as any "no go" areas you've marked on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules, or to create a spot-clean. It can also be used to it to prioritize the most soiled areas for better performance. The app has a range of options, including seasonal suggestions, custom mapping and advanced cleaning settings.

It also has the ability to reach corners and under furniture more easily because its shape is more rectangular. It has an impressive 8,000 Pascal suction and sophisticated combs that remove pet hair. You can also create a spot-clean that thoroughly cleans a particular area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a more sleek more affordable alternative to iRobot Roomba. It's got a more attractive, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras resemble cute eyes. It is great at vacuuming, however it is more likely to get caught in low thresholds. It also has a higher noise than other top robot vacuums that we've test. It also comes with an app that's not as intuitive and a small base station that can't double as a bin for emptying.
