There are models that mop and charge themselves this is an option that is essential for families with children or pets. Many of the best performers in our tests have great ability to overcome obstacles.

1. IRobot Roomba i3+ EVO

The i3+ EVO and its sibling, the i3 EVO are both identical robots that differ only in that the i3+ has self-emptying capabilities. That makes the i3+ a good choice for people who want a hands-off, fully automated cleaning experience, but aren't afraid of manually emptying their robot's dustbin when it fills up.

Both robots are adept at picking up surface debris on carpets and hard floors, and they're excellent at maneuvering around furniture and other obstacles. iAdapt navigation software creates smart maps of your home that help the i3+ EVO to navigate and clean in a way that maximizes efficiency. The i3+ isn't able to have the same obstacle avoidance capabilities as the i7+ or any other top-rated robots we have tested. It may get stuck on power cords or socks and have trouble moving between different surfaces like rug and hardwood.

iRobot suggests cleaning the area in which the i3+ EVO vacuums before using it. This includes putting away any toys or other clutter it might encounter. It is also recommended to keep the filters and dust bin free of dirt to prevent them from becoming clogged. When the i3+ EVO's internal bin is filled or the battery is empty it will return to its docking station and automatically empties its debris into the station's dust bin and then resumes cleaning robots for home where it began. The i3+ EVO's batteries last for about an hour and a half continuous use, and takes around three hours to recharge.

2. iRobot i7+ Roomba

The iRobot i7+ is a Top Rated Robot Vacuum model from iRobot’s flagship line and comes with the latest technology. It's self-charging, self-navigating and the most crucial feature of all -- it comes with self-emptying bins that eliminate one of the main sources of maintenance for any robot vacuum.

The Roomba I7+ is able to better map rooms with Imprint Smart Mapping. It also works with iRobot Home to schedule cleaning jobs, and you can control your robot via the app or by voice.

In our tests the i7+ was more agile and faster than our top choice, the eufy RoboVac G30, and it removed large chunks of pet hair from all surface kinds including carpeting. Its greatest advantage over the Eufy is the self-emptying bin which removes major maintenance sources and reduces the cost of maintenance.

We were also impressed by the i7+’s compatibility with Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant AI services. We utilized these services to instruct the robot on how to start or stop cleaning sessions, as well as to move around the room, and to vacuum a particular area. The iRobot Home App made it easy to connect the i7+ to these services. After connecting we were able to give the i7+ voice commands like "Hey Alexa, vacuum the master bedroom." The iRobot Home App also offers options for managing i7+ settings and monitoring performance.

3. Dyson Cyclone V10

The V10 is powered by a seven-cell, energy-dense lithium-ion battery which produces energy that is not faded for 60 minutes. The specially designed head utilizes stiff nylon bristles that penetrate deep into carpets and collect large crumbs or fine dust. It has three suction modes to match the task at hand. It is able to swiftly switch between handheld and floor vacuum robot vacuum and vice versa.

This model also has docks that charge to 100% in around 3.5 hours and provides an easy access to two attachments and a Wand clip. This is a huge improvement over earlier Dysons models, which take a long time to charge and are difficult to store.

The 694 is a standard robot vacuum that's a great choice for those who don't have a lot of money to invest in an expensive robot. It's capable of sucking up all debris types and sizes during our tests, and often goes over the same areas several times to give a thorough clean. The flat front of the unit allows it to reach into corners and along the walls' edges, which is a nice touch.

Its smart navigation system uses iAdapt technology to stay clear of obstacles and help you navigate your home. It's not equipped with the capabilities for mapping of more advanced models, such as our top picks, i3+EVO and J7+ Series. It can get stuck on phone cords or low furniture and will often run out of power before returning to its original location.

The Xiaomi Mi robot vacuum is superior to the Roomba 694 in all aspects, as it has fewer parts that need regular cleaning, is fitted with an allergen-trapping HEPA filter, has lower recurring costs, comes with more advanced automation capabilities and is more efficient in maneuvering itself. It also has a larger dustbin and is charged faster.

The elegant RoboVac X8 is superior to the Roomba 694 for most purposes, because it has a better battery life, can change its suction power mode on its own, comes with physical boundary strips, and can be operated by your phone's voice assistant. It's also more durable, has a stronger motor, and performs better on floors with low pile and bare.

5. Samsung Jet Bot AI+

Samsung is a well-known brand in home electronics. It's not a surprise that they are one of the top makers of robot vacuums and mop. Jet Bot AI+ has the most advanced onboard technology to navigate and avoid obstacles.

The app offers a variety of customization options for your robotic vacuums cleaner. This includes virtual barriers, mopping levels and behavior customizations, docking frequency settings and much more. It's easy to comprehend and easy to use, just as is the case with other Samsung devices.

In our tests during our tests, the Jet Bot AI+ performed well on hard floors. It removed 86 percent of dog hair (on carpet). It didn't do very well in avoiding taller items like cords or socks. This was disappointing. It's also a bit more expensive than the other models we tested which could be a problem for some buyers.

The smart vacuum has an onboard camera that can be accessed via the app, and you can also set up a live streaming from the robot's cleaning station. The app also makes it easy to steer the robot manually should you need to. For instance my living room rug has a darkly colored border that can make it difficult for other robots I've tested. The HRV 425BL however continued to travel across the border, without notifying the high point. The ability to program a daily cleaning schedule for each week is a time-saving benefit.
