World of Warcraft Upgrades and Item Upgrading

Upgrades increase the value of certain numeric stats on weapons, armor and rings. They also increase bonuses like PvE damage and crit chance.

If the weapon's upgrade template ends in %, it will increase 3% of its previous damage for every time it's upgraded.

Components

Upgrade components are items that can be slotted into weapons, armor, and trinkets in order to provide a stat bonus or extra effect while they're in use. They can be obtained by crafting, buying from vendors, trading or looting. Some upgrades can also be accompanied by special cosmetic effects.

Upgrade components can be inserted into any equipment that has a slot to accommodate them. The item must have been at a minimum upgraded to blue level for a component to be applied. Unlike other mods, upgrade components can only be used once; they can't be used multiple times or replaced with upgrades. Infusions and enrichments are a type of upgrade component that can be used to upgrade non-amulet legendary or ascending equipment, as other items that are not ascended. Infusions and enrichments are recovered by salvaging gear that is ascended or by completing an elite mission in the Prophecies, Factions and Nightfall campaigns.
