Path of Exile Item Upgrading

Upgrades to items allow players to upgrade their weapons and gear by adding new affixes, boosting its base stats or adding additional perks. To upgrade items, the player must have the item in their inventory, and also access the kiln.

Usually objects that have weak bases (like rings) can be upgraded to a more powerful base while items with strong bases such as Eth titans don't change significantly in their stats after being upgraded.

Upgrade components

Upgrade components are items that can be slotted into trinkets, armor, weapons and tools for gathering, offering an attribute bonus or extra effect when the equipment is used. They can be purchased from vendors, retrieved in loot from enemies, or received from chests or missions. Certain upgrades can also be equipped with special cosmetic effects. Most upgrades require that the equipment be at a certain level to upgrade.

To upgrade a weapon, armor or other item in the game, the player will need to select it and then click the Upgrade button in the toolbar. This will display on the right-hand side of the screen a preview showing the expected upgrade stats and the required component or materials.

There are three kinds of universal upgrades (which include gems) Prefix upgrades and suffix upgrade components. Universal upgrades, such as gems, can be put on any type of equipment. They offer a lower bonus than upgrade components that have a specific type restriction. Infusions, which can only be placed in ascended gear and legendary equipment, are the same as gems, but offer higher bonuses and are not able to be placed in any other kind of equipment. Suffix upgrades are able to be placed in gathering tools, add their name to the end of the name of the item upgrade they are connected to, for example adding the word Glyph to the Staff Wrapping of Minor Vigor will change it to a Canthan Staff Wrapping of Minor Vigor.

In the case of upgrades to gather tools If a player replaces one glyph with another the old glyph will be returned to the inventory. If you replace any other upgrade component, it will be destroyed, with the exception for the inscriptions that can be freely swapped.

Leveling

Path of Exile's upgrade system is different from previous versions in some important ways. Gear is now categorised in tracks and each item level upgrade can only be upgraded so many times before it's "leveled out." The cost of upgrading increases with each level, however the materials required for upgrades do not. This lets players focus their efforts on a few essential items and maximize their impact rather than spreading out the upgrade costs across multiple items.

This will enable the item to receive upgraded components and a greater chance of success. This bonus is called the Artisan's Energy. It resets at 0 if the upgrade fails or increases if the upgrade succeeds.

When a piece of equipment is upgraded to its maximum level, it will be able to gain affixes which will increase its features. The number of affixes available will depend on the item's kind. For instance, a rare or unique weapon with a normal base will only have two affixes available for it, whereas legendary armors can have up to eight affixes available for it.

Each upgrade requires a certain number of Flightstones or Crests, based on whether the item is at its current level and what slot it is in. Weapons will typically require more Flightstones than other equipment.

If an item fails to reach its maximum level, the NPC offers the player the option to transfer it to another character and then re-infuse it with a different set of upgrades. The process can take as long as two hours and costs the same amount of materials, though it will have less chance of success.

Engineers utilize a level to compare the height of the building to an established point, such as an existing benchmark. This method is known as a "level loop." It involves taking readings using the level and backsight rod, then turning the level to make the foresight rod reading. This method ensures that the buildings are constructed with the highest level of accuracy and safety.

Rerolling

Rerolling is the process of changing the upgrade components of an item. It is a crucial part of the game and can increase the damage, strength or other attributes. This can be done through the menu for items or by using the Reroll button on an upgraded item. Rerolling is costly and should only be used in very rare instances.

The game lets players recycle upgraded items, which can be used to earn Reroll tokens. These tokens can be used to upgrade the original Best item upgrader or a comparable item. Recyclable items have an indicator of level that indicates how much of the upgrade gauge has been filled. The amount of level that has been filled depends on the rarity and upgrade cost of the item.

Prior to this, certain upgrade items were given priority affixes that made them easier to roll. This meant that you would be able to get the stats that were important most to your build more often than other. This included stats like armor's total armour, thorns, and the control impaired duration stats or the weapons' bonus attack speed and strike chance.

This was changed with the recent patch. Priority affixes were removed and all upgrades have the same chance of rolling each statistic. This could be good or bad, depending on what you're looking for and want from your equipment.

Sets

To determine if a product is worth upgrading, players should click the Upgrade button on the screen for their character. The item's attributes will be displayed, along with any required items.
