It's more expensive than the other cot beds we've examined however, the quality and durability make it worth the extra cost. However, we recommend buying an oval mattress than one of the standard sizes to avoid overstretching the slats and potentially cause discomfort for your baby. Our tester had no other issues with the cot, and deemed it an excellent buy.

As its name suggests this bed is the epitome of luxurious. It's made of solid slats of plywood and birch, and is built to last. It has an ethereal French style. It is certified to French safety standards and you can be sure your child will be safe and sound. We like the off-white finish but it's also available in a stunning grey-green shade.

Our test subjects thought it was easy to put together, and also that it looked most luxurious of our selections. However, it's costly and you'll need to buy an additional mattress - and if you're on a budget there are more affordable alternatives there.

The Great Little Trading Company Little Wren Cotbed

If extra features are important for you then this cot bed is the perfect choice. It has a convenient under-bed storage area and teething rails. You can also adjust the height of the base with three different settings so your child won't be forced to climb out when they're older.

The only drawback of this cot sets is that you will need to buy a mattress separately which can make the cost rise even more than other models in our review. The stunning design and ease of assembly and the ability to grow with your child are all attractive and make this cot sets well worth the money. Our testers loved this cot and thought it would make a stunning accessory to any nursery.

The John Lewis Elementary

The John Lewis Elementary is a good choice for parents who want a chic, modern-looking frame that will last for a long time. It's more expensive than other frames but it comes with an accompanying changing table and wardrobe to outfit your nursery in one go. It's also easy to assemble, and includes three mattress height positions for your baby to grow into. It has teething rails, and a drawer that slides neatly beneath so that you don't lose valuable floor space.

It's worth noting that you'll need a separate mattress for this cot bed, so make sure you budget for it. You can find a decent mattress for less than PS100 and that's not too much of an additional expense. It may be difficult to find a mattress that fits the oval shape of the cot, however, there are many types that will fit.

There is a teddy-bear canopy as well as teething bars that can be removed. This cot bed was easy to put together for our tester. All of the pieces were clearly marked and packed. It's also smaller than some of the other cots that we tested and is an ideal choice for smaller rooms.

It's not expensive at PS599, with the mattress included. But it feels like an investment piece, and you can use it for more than one child. It looks stunning in natural wood, but you can also get it in three Scandi-inspired colors. It can be converted into a toddler's bed with ease (leaving three sides open to ensure safety) and into a daybed/sofa when your baby is ready to leave the bars behind.
