WoW Upgrades - The Item level upgrade Upgrader

Upgrades give a guaranteed boost to specific stats. Each upgrade increases the item upgrading level by +3. A random extra substat is also added to each upgrade.

Upgraded gear is generally more useful, unless the item has low requirements by nature (like FB sorc shields) or a high stat variance (like Eth Titan weapons). Upgrades aren't as valuable for the latter due to the requirement to roll an exact version.

Recycle Points

The upgrader for items allows players to upgrade gear to a higher item upgrade level by supplying the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any type of weapon or armor. The item used to upgrade the item level upgrade will be consumed and can't be used again. Upgrades can be used to create enchantments.

You can upgrade your equipment anytime by visiting the upgrader in any major city. To keep your gear current, it is recommended that you visit the upgrader every several weeks.

Upgrades will cost more, based on the level of the item however they'll always be cheaper than purchasing new gear. Upgrades like upgrading a Benthic chest up to 385 ilvl will cost you 20 recycle points. Buying a similar item will cost you 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that can be used for tools, armor, weapon and accessory upgrades. They can be purchased by players through item upgrader NPCs in exchange for different currencies, and can also be found in random treasure lists. Once an upgrade has been purchased, it can be applied to any weapon, tool, or armor with the help of The button will display the preview of an item's next upgrade level if there are enough materials.

The cost of upgrades varies based on the slot of the item and the current item level, with weapons costing more than gloves or bracers for instance. Each upgrade costs 15 Flightstones plus a set number of crests. Certain upgrades provide a discount on the Flightstones. After an item has been upgraded to a certain degree, it can be downgraded and sold to the upgrader at a lower cost.

Many locations have upgraders for their items, including the main Island and some outposts. The NPCs provide both an upgrade discount and the chance to obtain a new upgrade recipe. The discount on upgrades increases with the number of items that are being upgraded, and can be boosted by having players complete some specific achievements or complete quests.

Icewind Dale does not have an upgrader for items at the beginning, unlike Cromwell from Baldur's Gate II. The NPCs that can assist with upgrades are only available via a variety of ways. This is both a benefit and an issue.

Players can obtain crests by finishing content at the appropriate level, which involves walking around and engaging in outdoor activities to get lower-tier gear, dungeons or raids of all difficulty for items of higher tier or Mythic+ dungeons or heroic raid bosses for endgame gear. The crests can then be exchanged with an upgrader for the item, such as Cuzolth or Vaskarn, in Valdrakken for the appropriate upgrade steps and pathways.

Using these new currencies isn't that difficult however, the system does introduce some changes to the overall upgrade process. When a piece of equipment reaches the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer or Adventurer) it no longer requires Flightstones. This change is intended to allow players to upgrade their equipment up to the highest possible ilvl for all their characters instead of relying only on seasonal loot.

It's also crucial to choose crests with care, since they are only used for one purpose. For instance it's a good idea to make use of all your Whelpling-rank crests on the top gear you have available and save Drake and Wyrm crests for the next round of upgrades you're planning to create. This is particularly relevant for rings and trinkets that fill multiple slots on the character which will only be able to take advantage of the discount for all accounts when all slots are filled with top-quality equipment.
