Path of Exile Item Upgrading

Item upgrading allows players to improve their weapons and gear with new affixes, increasing the base stats of the item or giving additional benefits. To upgrade an item, the player has to have it in their inventory, as well as access to the kiln.

Items that have weak bases, like rings, can be upgraded into stronger bases. Items with strong bases, such as the Titans of eth have little changes in their stats.

Upgrade components

Upgrade components can be added to weapons, armors trinkets, weapons and gathering tools. They provide an attribute bonus or extra effect, while the equipment is in use. They can be bought from vendors, or found in loot, dropped by enemies or as rewards from missions or chests. Some upgrades have additional cosmetic effects. Most upgrades require that the equipment be above a certain point before they can be upgraded.

To upgrade the quality of a weapon or piece armor, the user must choose it and click on the Upgrade button in the toolbar. This will show a preview on the right side of the screen that shows what the expected upgrade stats will be, as well as the component or material needed to complete the upgrade.

There are three types of upgrade components that are universal upgrades, prefix upgrades and suffix upgrades. Universal upgrades, which comprise gems, are able to be used in any type of equipment and provide smaller bonuses than upgrade components that are type-restricted. Leveling

Path of Exile's upgrade process is different from the previous versions in a few important ways. Gear is now categorised in tracks and each item is able to be upgraded a certain number of times before it's "leveled out." The upgrade costs increase with each level, however the materials required do not. This allows players to focus their efforts on a select few items and maximize the effect of those items, rather than spreading the cost of upgrades across several pieces.

Rerolling
