WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades provide a guaranteed boost to certain stats. Each upgrade increases the level of an item by 3. Each upgrade also increases the random substatus.

The more modernized gear generally has a higher trade value, unless it has inherently low requirements (like the FB sorc's shield) or very high stat variance (like Eth titan weapons). The latter see less value from upgrading due to the need to roll to get a perfect version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader allows players to upgrade their gear to a higher level by supplying the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any type of armor or weapon. The item used to upgrade the item will be consumed and can't be used again. Upgrades can be used to create Enchantments.

The upgrader can be found in all major cities, and can be visited anytime to upgrade your gear. It is recommended to visit the upgrader at least once every few weeks to keep your equipment up-to-date.

Upgrades will cost more depending on the item level upgrade (you could try this out) level, however they'll always be cheaper than purchasing new equipment. Upgrades such as upgrading a Benthic chest up to ilvl385 will cost you 20 recycle points. If you purchase a similar item upgrading, it will cost you 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that can be used for weapon, armor, tool and accessory upgrades. They can be purchased by players through item upgrader NPCs in exchange for different currencies, and can also be found in random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade can be applied to any tool, weapon or armor. The button will show a preview of an item's next upgrade level if there are enough materials.

Upgrade costs vary depending on the slot of the item and the current level of the item. For example weapons cost more than bracers, or gloves. Each upgrade cost 15 Flightstones plus a certain number of crests. Certain upgrades provide discounts on Flightstones. Once an item has been upgraded to a certain amount it can be re-downgraded and sold to the upgrader at a lower price.

Many locations offer item upgraders, including the main Island and a few outposts. The NPCs offer both an upgrade discount and a chance to acquire a new upgrade recipe. The upgrade discount increases when more items are upgraded. It can also be increased by having players complete certain achievements or quests.

Icewind Dale does not have an upgrader for items at the start, unlike Cromwell from Baldur's Gate II. The NPCs who can facilitate upgrades are available only through a variety of methods. This is both a positive and a disadvantage.

In Season 3, a number of new features have been added to the upgrade system. After an upgrade has been completed to a certain level of item for an armor slot upgrading other items to the same item upgrades level will cost less. This applies even if the items come from another set of gear.

The discount is available to all accounts. In the same way, the amount of Harbinger Crests required for upgrades is also cut and is not available until players achieve certain milestones in their achievements.

Crests

Players have a number of options when it comes to upgrading their equipment in WoW. Flightstones are a currency that is available to everyone who wants to upgrade item. Crests are more specific and are used for specific item level upgrades. Crests are an essential part of the Dragonflight gear progression system, which was introduced in 10.1, and come in 4 ranks.

The first thing to remember is that Crests are only available to gear with a certain rank. Each rank comes with a different upgrade path. The easiest and most straightforward upgrade costs 15 crests. The most complex upgrade can require up to 20 crests, depending on the type of gear that is being upgraded.

Players can earn crests through completing tasks at the appropriate level. This could mean doing outdoor activities or completing dungeons and raids in all difficulties to get lower-level gear or Mythic+ raid bosses or dungeons with heroic difficulty for endgame gear. Crests can be exchanged at an item upgrader NPC, such as Cuzolth in Dornogal or Vaskarn in Valdrakken to get the appropriate upgrade routes and steps.

The use of these currencies isn't too difficult, but the system introduces some modifications to the upgrade process. For instance, once a piece of equipment reaches the highest upgrade level of any rank (Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, or Mythic), it won't need Flightstones to be upgraded. This change allows players to upgrade their equipment to the highest possible ilvl for all their characters, instead of relying on seasonal loot.

It's also crucial to choose crests with care, since they only have one use. It is recommended to use your Whelpling-rank crests on the Best item upgrader gear you can find and save Drake and Wyrm Crests to be used for the next set of upgrades. This is particularly relevant for rings and trinkets that take up multiple slots on the character, which can only be eligible to benefit from the account-wide discount when all of the slots are filled with high-quality equipment.
