World of Warcraft Upgrades and Item Upgrading

Upgrades can boost the value of armors, weapons and rings. Upgrades can also boost bonuses like Crit chance and PvE Damage.

If the template for upgrading a weapon ends in %, it will increase an additional 3% of the previous damage every time it's upgraded.

Item upgrading costs crests and the current level of the item. The cost increases as the level of the item rises.

Components

Upgrade components can be added to weapons, armor and trinkets to give them a stat boost or an extra effect. These can be obtained through crafting, buying from vendors trading, or looting. Certain upgrades come with special cosmetic effects.

Upgrade components can be inserted into any equipment that has a slot for them. The item must have been at least upgraded to the blue level to allow a component to be inserted. Upgrade components, unlike other mods can only be applied only once. They are not able to be replaced or applied multiple times. Infusions and enrichments are a type of upgrade component that can be used to upgrade non-amulet legendary and ascended equipment, as well as some non-ascended items. Infusions and enrichments are recovered by salvaging ascended gear or by completing an elite mission in the Prophecies, Factions and Nightfall campaigns.

An upgrade may be prefixed or a suffix, modifying the name of the equipment with which it is applied (for instance "Canthan Armor Insignia is changed to Canthan Armor of Minor Vigor). Some upgrades boost an item's Mark Level or Rarity, which allows players to make stronger versions of the equipment using less Upgrade Crystals than is required to reach the same level of upgrade using normal methods.

A 'boost' upgrade can change the attack or defence characteristics of an armored weapon or. Once the player has completed the cutscene and defeated the Crazed Mechanist, these upgrades can be created at the Portative Forging Station. In the endgame you'll find that the best way to enhance your gear is to place Glyphs. They are the only upgrade components that can be upgraded to level 15 and offer significant boosts to your power on the Paragon Board.

Glyphs, the sole upgrade component that can be removed without restriction and then replaced with no restrictions, are the most common. The only exception is legendary equipment, which requires a Black Lion Salvage Kit to salvage and replace.

The value of each Glyph is displayed when you select it in your inventory. You can decide to replace it with a different Glyph of the same rank, or a higher rank, which will boost the value of the Glyph.

There are Glyphs in the Black Lion Trading Post, as part of a Gem Store purchase or bundle with certain gathering tools that are unlimited-use, and through Faction Crypt raids. Every Faction Crypt can drop one of these Glyphs. There are also some rare glyphs that you can find in any of the Faction Crypts.

Once you have the desired Glyphs, you will need to place them on your gear. Each Glyph unlocks a bonus that will boost a specific set of stat nodes that are within the radius of the Glyph. Depending on the Glyph, this will either be +40 to one of your primary stats, or +25 to two of your secondary stats.

Glyphs will boost all nodes that are connected to them, therefore it is recommended to place Glyphs in the most important locations on the Graph. This will maximize the impact. For example an Druid should try to position their Glyphs near their primary damage nodes, but also think about placing them near crucial damage nodes too.

Leveling

The upgrade system for items allows players to improve the performance of specific items by putting upgraded components inside them. This is known as "upping". Every upgradeable item has a level that determines its final upgraded stats. Upgraded items may be leveled up to a maximum of 385. Each level requires a different number of components, and the upgrade costs increase as the item gets upgraded.

Certain upgrades require an ingredient to be activated. This ingredient can be obtained by finishing Upgrade Recipes. These recipes are available in the upgrade tab of a crafting table, or obtained from NPCs. Each Upgrade Recipe completed results in a certain amount of Technology points. These points can be used for the upgrading of an item. When enough points have been earned you will be able to claim the upgrade and get its extra bonuses.

When the player upgrades an item it is replaced by a new item of the same kind. The same armor will receive a weapon or a shield when upgraded. The new item will have its own set bonus. This can be a downside, as the item can become more expensive even if you don't require it.

Upgrades to items can be rerolled, if the player has enough tokens in order to do so. The item will be replaced with an entirely new item that is based on a level 1 base and completely different bonuses. This can be useful for some items, but it shouldn't be repeated often, as it can use up a lot of resources.

Certain upgrades can boost their value, allowing players to customize their gear. One example is Dolphin's Gift, which gives a buff when the player repeatedly enters and leaves the water (or does not swim as dolphins). The item can be upgraded many times by increasing the maximum roll every time by 10 increments. This item is extremely valuable in PvP as the best version of it could be worth between 20 and 50x its value without being upgraded.
