WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades give a guaranteed boost to specific stats. Each upgrade increases the level of an item level upgrade by 3. Each upgrade also increases an unspecified substat.

Upgraded gear is generally more valuable, unless the item upgrading is not required by nature (like FB sorc shields) or has a high variance in stats (like eth Titan weapons). Upgrades are not as valuable for the latter because of the requirement to roll the perfect version.

Recycle Points

The upgrader for items allows players to upgrade their gear to a higher level by providing the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any type of weapon or armor. The item used to upgrade the item will be consumed and can't be used again. Upgrades can also be used to create enchantments.

You can upgrade your gear at any time by visiting the upgrader in any major city. To keep your gear up-to-date it is recommended that you visit the upgrader every few weeks.

The cost of upgrades will be based on the current item upgrader mod level of the gear being upgraded however, they will always be cheaper than purchasing new equipment from other sources. For example upgrading a chest piece from Benthic to 385 levels will cost 20 recycle points purchasing a similar piece from another player will costs 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are functional items that can be used to upgrade weapons tools, armor, and other accessories. They can be bought by players through NPCs that sell upgrades to items in exchange for different currencies, and can also be found in random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade can be applied to any tool, weapon, or armor. button, which will show an item's preview at the next upgrade level if the player has sufficient materials.

Upgrade costs vary depending on the item upgrader kit slot, and the current level of the item. For instance weapons are more expensive than gloves, bracers, or bracers. Each upgrade costs 15 Flightstones and a few crests, with certain upgrades having a discount to lower the cost of Flightstones or crests that are used. After an item has been upgraded to a certain amount, it can be degraded and returned to the upgrader for a lower amount of both currencies.

Upgraders for items can be found at many locations including the main island, as well as a few outposts. The NPCs offer both an upgrade coupon and the chance to obtain an entirely new recipe. The discount for upgrading increases as more items are upgraded. It can be increased by having players complete certain achievements or complete quests.

In contrast to Cromwell in Baldur's Gate II is no upgrader for items available in the beginning of Icewind Dale. Instead, the NPCs that are available to help with upgrades must be acquired through several methods which is both an improvement but also a drawback.

In Season 3, many new features have been added to the upgrade system. After a player has earned an upgrade to a particular level of an item for a specific armor slot, upgrading further items to that level will be less expensive, even when they belong to a different gear set.

The discount is available to all accounts. The amount of Harbinger Crests required for upgrades is also reduced and is not available until players have reached certain milestones in their achievements.

Crests

Players have several options for upgrading their equipment in WoW. Flightstones are a currency that is available to everyone who wants to upgrade item. Crests are more special and are utilized during specific item level upgrades. Crests are an integral part of the Dragonflight Gear Progression System, which was introduced in version 10.1. They are available in four ranks.

The first thing to note is that crests are only able to be spent on equipment of a particular rank, and that every rank has different requirements for its upgrade path. The easiest and most straightforward upgrade is 15 crests. The most complex upgrade could require as much as 20 crests, based on the kind of gear being upgraded.

Players can obtain crests by working through content that is of the appropriate level, which involves walking around and performing outdoor activities to get lower-tier gear, raids or dungeons with any difficulty for higher-tier items or Mythic+ heroic raid bosses and dungeons for endgame gear. These crests can be exchanged with an upgrader such as Cuzolth or Vaskarn, in Valdrakken for the appropriate upgrade steps and routes.

The new currency system isn't too difficult to use, but it brings some modifications to the upgrade process. Once a piece of gear attains the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer or Adventurer), it will no longer require Flightstones. This change is intended to allow players to get their equipment to the highest possible ilvl on all their characters, instead of relying only on seasonal loot.

Another notable modification is that crests have one purpose and it's crucial to use them properly. It is best to use your Whelpling-rank crests on the Best item upgrade gear you can locate and save Drake and Wyrm Crests to be used for the next set of upgrades. This is particularly applicable to items like trinkets and rings that take up several slots. The discount for the entire account will only apply when all slots on the character are filled with top-quality equipment.
